Within 3 years the shed was converted to a well insulated open-plan cottage with a bathroom at one end and a powerful ventilated fireplace at the other, enough to heat the space even when the outside temperature drops below zero. Today the cottage sleeps four to five people in traditional style with the beds on the elevated platform ("οντάς") which runs along the east and south walls.
The architect's task was far from simple. The specifications were quite strict; to maintain the features of the long building no internal walls were built, with the exception of the bathroom partition. "Kitchen", "living room" and "bedspace" had to be accommodated in the unified room, natural light had to be assured, all dimensions and openings had to be maintained as before. The installation of three chimneys was the only new feature in the building.
