Easter fire

Photo Nikos Melanitis 2017
Three year-old beech for intense combustion and one year-old oak for long lasting flame form a lovely Easter fire to roast an entire lamb. Columns of smoke rise early on Easter Sunday above the village as each household prepares its lamb on the spit. There's usually plenty of wine, raki, cheese, eggs and music to keep the fire makers happy until the lamb is ready, and plenty of opportunity for paying visits to neighbours and sharing a glass of wine.
