The internal first floor walls of the main house are made of mud bricks (adobe, "πλιθί" in Greek) and wood beams, vertically, horizontally and diagonally positioned. An adobe brick is a traditional composite material made of earth mixed with water and an organic material such as straw. Straw is useful in binding the brick together and allowing the brick to dry evenly, thereby preventing cracking due to uneven shrinkage rates through the brick (
Ref). A wire mesh bound on the adobe wall provides the substrate for effective plastering.
