Re-pointing the stone wall

Photo © Nikos Melanitis 2016

Major part of the renovation is the repointing of the stone. It aims not only to satisfying aesthetic purposes but to preventing the rain water to seep in the wall.

The removal of old mortar from the joints with long-necked jointing chisels revealed cracks and weak points in the stonewall. Deep re-pointing and subsequent concrete pressing in gaps and cracks preceeded the final extrenal re-pointing with the new mortar using a suitable mix of different grades of sands and aggregates.
